School, Fall and more

Here we are at the beginning of the new school year. The children had their first day last Tuesday and luckily are able to be attending the school we love without me having to be their transportation this year considering I have my hands full with Gabriel and a new baby due here in about a month.

I love this time of year. I always have since I was a little girl. I think my favorite things about it are the changing colors, the way the air smells in the mornings when you first step outside, the excitement of a new school year and to me it always feels like a fresh start somehow. Fall makes me happy and cheery.

I am 2 days shy of being 35 weeks pregnant. At our 33 week appointment the doctor said they wanted to do an amniocentesis to check the baby's lungs for maturity and induce if they were indeed mature. The reason she said this was because I guess once you reach 36 weeks gestation the testing to check the baby for anemia are no longer very accurate. At my 34 week appointment, a different doctor thought it would be ok to just wait until labor begins on its own since most likely the baby will be unaffected by theses antibodies since he hasn't thus far meaning my placenta is doing a good job not allowing those antibodies to reach the baby.

I don't know what to think. All I know is I want to do whatever is best for the baby. I know my body is spent and ready to be done as soon as possible. I know I have a 11 month old that is very attached to mommy lately and doesn't realize its hard for mommy to carry him around 24/7, only that he needs me. A husband that doesn't understand how hard it is to be pregnant only that he is worn out too from long days of work.  2 older kids that don't see that I need them to be more responsible and two dogs that don't care that I'm almost 9 months pregnant but know that they crave exercise.

That's life I guess as a mother. Its all worth it though and things will get easier. I am looking forward to taking the family to the pumpkin patch soon, Gabriel's first birthday party this weekend and Romeos football games. Oh and I cant forget sweatshirts and bonfires. Beautiful Fall.

Busy Busy Busy

Less than a month to go before school begins for the children. Every day, week, year, seems to fly by since I started having children. This summer is going by especially fast, probably because it took so long to get nice weather, then it was so hot you could hardly stand it and now the weather is finally nice and warm... ahh.

I find myself looking ahead to these next weeks and months to follow and am seeing nothing but a busy schedule in my final few months of pregnancy. Romeo starts football Monday with practices 3 times a week and a game usually once a week. Olivia is going to start gymnastics soon as well. My mom's 50th birthday is at the beginning of September and my three children have birthdays that follow that. Gabriel's 1st birthday is at the end of September and the other 2 in October and of course I am due October 20th with the next one. 4 birthdays so close to eachother is nutty and I still have no idea how it happened that way. My husband of course was very slow and now is slammed with work when its the busiest at home.

I have doctors appointments every week now and my body is very tired and beat from being pregnant back to back. Today I went in to see an orthopedic doctor and they gave me cortisone shots in my wrists for my carpel tunnel syndrome due to the pregnancy. The doctor said I should feel some much needed relief in about 7-10 days, I hope so. My husband and I also have weekend engagements that we have committed to for the next few weeks and we still have yet to take the children school shopping, probably get that done later this week.

In the midst of it all is a house that needs to be tended to,  bored kids and animals, that need to eat and be entertained, and a marriage that needs nurturing. It gets to be alot, but each day at the end of the day I remember to remind myself how much I am blessed with and am thankful.

Tonight after dinner with my swollen feet and numb hands and a husband at work, I couldn't say no when the kids asked to walk to the park. So we went and even though there were small tradgedies and whining, the weather was nice and we were all together and thats all that matters.
The fun of being a kid

So Far so Good

Since I haven't blogged in awhile let me start by catching you up on this crazy pregnancy. We are now at 26 weeks. I can't believe how fast the time is going by. At 15 weeks we had an amniocentesis and found out that the baby does infact have the E antigen that my body is making such high antibodies against. The name of the condition is Anti-E alloimmunization. Since then we have been going to the doctor about every 10-14 days for ultrasounds to measure blood velocity in an artery in the baby's brain to see if any signs of anemia are apparent. So far all of our appointments have resulted in good news. Starting at 28 weeks we have to go in every 7 days for fetal non-stress testing on top of our ultrasounds and regular ob checkups.

I am in good spirits about it all still and know that what we have to do is what we have to do for a healthy baby. I have been getting quite uncomfortable early on though so I do dream of the day when my body has a chance to recover from being pregnant for what seems like so long, I actually don't even feel like I had a 4 month break inbetween. I look forward to next summer when I have no restrictions and have my wonderful family all here, healthy, to enjoy it with!

When life hands you lemons...I am really sick of lemonade!

Could things be easy for us when it comes to pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum? I was hoping since the 3rd time was not a charm that the fourth would have to be, I can't be that unlucky, but I found out I am and somehow ended up with another complication that only happens in like 1% of pregnancies.

I had some of the routine first trimester blood work done and it came back that I have antibodies to certain things in blood. I was referred to a Perinatologist (for those of you who don't know it is a doc that is specialized in high risk pregnancies.) To make a long story short if my baby has a certain blood type that my body has made antibodies against my body will destroy the baby's red blood cells and cause anemia in the baby. Treatment? Very frequent ultrasounds to measure blood in the brain to check for anemia and if anemia happens the baby will have to get blood transfusions via a needle inserted into my stomach and through the umbilical cord. Sounds like fun for both of us huh?I asked how likely it will be that the baby will be affected. They said based on the high number of antibodies in my blood it is very likely. Damn.

So the next step is getting my husbands blood type looked at to see if he is going to pass the baby the type my body has antibodies to. Second at 15 weeks will have follow up bloodwork and an amniocentesis, which I haven't ever had so I am nervous. I guess the doc said for now it won't affect the baby until about the 18th week and I am 11 weeks now. I will keep you updated.

On a cheerier subject, spring is near, I can feel it. I have been thinking about planting flowers, having sheets on the bed that smell wonderful from being hung outside, having the windows open and barbecuing. I can't wait for the children to be able to play outside and to be able to take these hyper dogs to the dog park. The down side to the transition from winter to spring is all the dog poop that surfaces, and the muddy dog feet that have to be cleaned, woohoo! I love my animals but Life would be so much easier without them *sigh*.

And so baby #4 is OK and cooking

Friday we got another ultrasound ands the results are in. Baby #4 is A OK, in the uterus where he or she should be and we even got to see the little specks heartbeat. They even gave me a picture of what looks like the little dot but we all know how fast that will change and before we know it we'll be going crazy taking care of 2 babies (Gabe and the new one will only be about a year apart) and two older children. So I think I'll enjoy that little speck being in there for now and the horrible nausea it's been causing me. I am excited though about the good news and am getting use to the idea that this is going to happen again. The ultrasound estimated that I am about 6 1/2 weeks and not surprised that our due date is October 20th. Rome's birthday is 10-5 Olivia's 10-24 and Gabriel is 9-21. That time of year is getting quite expensive, I think it's time we find a better hobby for new years lol.

Recording Memories

When I go through and look at old pictures and things I have saved that the children have made in the past, it just melts my heart. I love having those things to reminisce on the past. Like when Olivia and her cousin Naomi actually counted how many licks it took to get to the center of a tootsie pop and tallied it on paper, definitely a keepsake (716 was their findings, lol). Or that cute picture of Romeo on his first day of school when I thought he was so big, but looking back he was so little.

When Romeo was born, I received a baby book and of course was all into it for awhile, but then, like most people, I fell off on doing it and then you begin to forget the dates and so on and it gets tucked away uncompleted.

For awhile I have been wanting to make memory books for the children and I have been doing a pretty good job keeping track of all Gabe's milestones. So yesterday I ordered a bunch of things online that I need to start creating memory books for each of them. I also ordered a book called The belly book to record my pregnancy this time around. I had really wanted to do that with Gabriel but never did. I am really excited to receive all my goodies, hopefully by next week.

Also I got results from my bloodwork and things are looking pretty good. Have to have more done tomorrow and then another ultrasound next week. So far so good. I'll keep you posted.

Baby #4?!

My post today was going to be about Valentine's day and what we as women REALLY want, but I decided to share our news instead. To our surprise we just found out we are expecting again. I can't believe how soon this is happening, we really never expected this and weren't sure if we would even have anymore children, but surprise, after 4 positive home pregnancy tests and a trip to the doctor it was confirmed.

There are some concerns on if the baby is in the tube since on ultrasound they had a hard time pinpointing baby's location . If that is the case the pregnancy won't be viable, but they are also saying everything might be ok it may just be that I am so early that its just hard to see and everything will be fine. So right now we are waiting for news from bloodwork and we have to have another ultrasound to look again later this week. I am just praying that everything will be ok , I know it will be because whats meant to be will be and it's in God's hands, the best place it could be.

Right now I am just living for today and not worrying about anything. I have my 4 beautiful Valentines and am enjoying each moment with them. I hope you are doing the same. Happy Valentine's Day (:

The Time is Near

I went to my 38 week appointment yesterday and felt a big relief after discussing some of my concerns about the baby's cord around his neck with the Doctor. The doctor assured me that a cord around the neck is quite common and if it does cause any problems that they will be able to handle them. We also discussed that regardless of my past problems, that an induction a week early just isn't necessary and so we decided that we are going to just let nature take its course and let baby come when he is ready. That time might be soon, well I'm almost positive it is. Last night I felt terrible with a lot of braxton hicks, really bad back and leg pain and just an instinctual feeling that labor would start soon. When I got up this morning I had some other physical yucky signs so I am really excited to know that it shouldn't be long.
So today we have been getting the house in order, putting together baby things and doing laundry. I think now a nap is in order, the weather is perfect for it, nice and cool.

Waiting

Monday I had an ultrasound, one of many that I have had throughout this pregnancy to look for problems with the placenta because I had a condition called "placenta accreta" with my last pregnancy that caused major problems postpartum. Everything has looked normal with the baby and the placenta up to this point, and Monday was supposed to be my last ultrasound since I am due soon.
At the very end of the appointment though, the Doctor noticed that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck and when he looked closer he said that it was wrapped around twice. My heart just sank. The doctor watched the baby's breathing and heart rate for awhile and found it to be normal. He said that right now the baby is fine but that a cord around the neck during labor can pose a problem because once the baby descends into the pelvis, the cord can get compressed or pulled tight and cut off oxygen to the baby. With that, he decided he needed to see me back next Tuesday to see if the baby has unwound himself otherwise a c-section might be the best route. Although I would like to avoid that especially since I've never had a c-section, I'll do whatever it takes to make sure he gets here safe. So now all I have been doing is making sure I am feeling him move inside and I feel so on edge. I am so worried about him. I have a doctors appointment on Friday and just want Friday and Tuesday to come so I can find out what we are going to have to do.  More than that I just want him to be here, safe in my arms. That is all I've wanted since the day I found out I was pregnant, him here where I can keep him safe.

Ready or Not

I am tired today.
My calves and thighs been aching, my hips hurt, heartburn is a nagging and my anxiety is up and down. I know my body is ready for this baby to come but I really don't know if I am. I mean don't get me wrong, I am so excited and know we can do it but I wonder if it will be total culture shock to us just like it was 11 years ago with our first. With our youngest right now being almost 8 we are not use to life with a little one but I am confident that this time it will be much easier since we are older now and have experience on our side plus two older children who have such big hearts to help us. I know everything will be fine I think it's just hormones at this point because my emotions have been all wacked out these past 3 or so weeks. I am honestly surprised my husband is still sane!
Yesterday after I dropped the children off for their 2nd day of school I decided to go and get a pedicure since my feet looked just terrible and I haven't ever had one (except Olivia's that she has given me at home). I thought what a perfect time to have my first and it was such a treat and put me in a good mood for the day. I think I might have to make that something I do, not all the time but at least a few times a year.I just love being pampered and especially now I felt that it was well deserved.
This weekend and the beginning of next week are jam packed with things to do. I can't wait to get through all of them and just relax. So tomorrow marks 37 weeks pregnant meaning there is only 3 weeks til my due date and my Dr actually wants me to have baby at 39 weeks for past problems with pregnancy. So unless I go into labor before then it looks like about 2 more weeks at the most. I have mine and baby's bags packed so we are ready to go whenever it is time and ready or not, our new life is going to begin anytime now. (-:
36 WEEKS- We love u BABY!
